Occupational Pension Transfer Advice – increased interest as new ‘pension freedoms’ offer more flexible options.
We are currently experiencing a dramatic increase in people asking for advice on their occupational pension scheme and whether a pension transfer to a personal pension would be right for them. This is as a result of the radical changes made to private pensions in the 2015 April Budget giving greater ‘pension freedoms’.
This does not apply to the state pension nor to most government schemes (eg. NHS, MPs, police, armed forces, civil servants). It does apply to people who have worked for large companies who have money purchase benefits. Many people in large companies, or certain local government schemes, who have final salary pensions might also be able to transfer their funds to a money purchase scheme to utilise pension freedom.
The ‘pension freedoms’ offer more flexible options to personal pensions in terms of drawing income and death benefits – however you could be giving up a guaranteed index-linked pension benefits if you do transfer.
